Styling Tips for your Bar Cabinet or Cart

Over the years I’ve had my share of bar carts (haven’t we all?). Slowly i’ve gotten rid of them but never knew what I wanted to replace them with. You know I love a surface to style, but I think my problem with bar carts (in our home at least, there are plenty of situations i love them in) is that everything was so exposed. And when it comes to liquor bottles, it’s not always easy to pick good quality that also has good branding and packaging. It left my bar cart feeling a little messy.

Enter the bar cabinet. I feel a little more grown up (i guess having a place to store your crap does that! haha) and i can’t tell you how much better this looks in our space! I can hide all of our favorite wine and spirits that i don’t love the labels on, i can keep a stock of bar snacks, and i can store my linens + other entertaining essentials like sparkling water. Even with all those perks, I think that my favorite part is that this spot now connects 2 main spaces in our home that needed a bit more flow. On the right is our living room and the left is our kitchen. This sits right in between which i think will be PERFECT for the holidays. It will entice people out of the kitchen (where everyone ALWAYS ends up!) and over into the living room. It literally bridged a gap in my home that i didn’t know we had!

STYLING TIP NO. 1

Like I said above, hiding a bit of your clutter can do a lot for your space. Hide the extra supplies inside your cabinet and only display the essentials on top. But make a point (or designate someone who can) to occasionally check in on this spot while you’re entertaining. Restock your cocktail napkins, put out a fresh bottle of wine and top off the marcona almonds:)

STYLING TIP NO. 2

Add some flowers, fresh or dried. It softens the contents on the bar and is an unexpected touch.

Rollins Table Lamp

STYLING TIP NO. 3

Make it cozy and set the mood. Lighting changes everything. And if there were one rule in a home, I would say it’s stick to lamps over overhead lighting. It’s warm and inviting and creates the best vibe for an evening at home. In addition to lighting, remember to provide additional seating if you can. You can add a pouf, a stool, an actual chair or a bench. Just remember to make it cozy with a little pillow or even a throw blanket. Guests will thank you for giving them a chance to rest after mingling all night.

Modern Figures II Wall Art

STYLING TIP NO. 4

Don’t be afraid to add art. Chances are the piece of furniture you choose for your bar will be fairly short, leaving your eye an entire wall with nothing on it to look at. So lean your art, hang your art, do whatever works with your home. Make it cocktail specific art if you really want to designate the space, or go with the vibe of the rest of your home so it flows and feels like the bar space fits with your everyday routine.
