Picnic Basket Packing

Summer Picnic - A Fabulous Fete.jpg

With summer rapidly coming to an end, we wanted to make sure to maximize every opportunity to get outside and feel the warm sunshine. One of my favorite things to do, that we don’t do nearly often enough, is pack a picnic and go to the beach or a park. It’s such a great way to mix up the typical rosé and charcuterie night, and it’s just been too nice outside lately.

So I grabbed some picnic essentials, used one of my favorite baskets, and decided to finally have a little summer picnic. I knew I wanted to have a variety of healthy snacks, that were easy to throw together ahead of time, or could be assembled once we got to our picnic spot. This lentil dip with pita chips was the perfect thing to prepare in advance, and some fruit seemed like the obvious choice to pair with it. Of course, it wouldn’t be a perfect picnic without some chilled wine and fresh blooms.

How to Pack for a Summer Picnic - A Fabulous Fete.jpg

what to pack:

  • Picnic Blanket

  • Snacks [we packed lentil dip with pita, apples, and grapes]

  • Napkins

  • Utensils

  • Something to keep the wine cool

  • Discreet tumblers for aforementioned wine

The lentil dip:

This dip is seriously one of the easiest recipes EVER. It tends to be a go-to any time my girlfriends get together because it’s quick and easy to make, has simple ingredients, is fairly healthy, and is insanely addicting. We grabbed all the ingredients from Trader Joe’s for under $10. If you are buying the ingredients from Trader Joe’s, you literally just use the entire container of each ingredients.

  • Pack of steamed lentils — roughly 2.5 cups

  • Jar of bruschetta — 12 oz.

  • Fat free feta cheese - 6 oz.
