An Ice Cream Tasting to Kick Off Summer + Tips to Host Your Own

If there’s one thing that screams summer… it’s ice cream. So when our team decided to host a little kick off to summer just a few weeks ago, there was only one thing that could be the focus (ice cream, duh… well, and a little rosé). We teamed up with Tillamook, aka the ultimate ice cream brand, to host our shindig. With over 30 flavors to choose from, there was no question. There was something for everyone. Sweet, salty, plain and extravagant. And while it was hard to determine if our guests had a favorite, one thing was clear (due to the fact that we left with NO leftovers), people were equally pleased with all of the flavors we served them. Here’s a peek into our day.

Guests were welcomed into the back patio at a boutique in Laguna Beach where we set up an interactive display with five of our favorite Tillamook flavors; Mint Chip, Birthday Cake, Mudslide, Strawberry, and Old-Fashioned Vanilla. The display featured notes from each flavor, mini tasting bowls on ice, and summer accessories to set the tone for the morning.

After our guests tried out all of the flavors, most chose their fave and loaded up a cone to enjoy the rest of the space. We offered a flower bar, custom ice cream tote bags, and a fun button making station for everyone to get creative. Our tote bags and buttons featured designs our team created to go along with the summer/ice cream theme. It was the perfect take away for everyone to remember the day!

We included rattan accents and flowers inspired by the Tillamook packaging to decorate the space.

Tips to Host your own ice cream tasting

  1. Choose a minimum of 4 flavors to round out your selection

  2. If you can pre-portion them, do! It’ll save you so much time. We recommend scooping into mini bowls, popping those in a large Tupperware, then freezing until your event

  3. Serve on ice. The colder the better.

  4. Offer a new spoon for each tasting, you don’t want guests mixing the flavors

  5. Make it interactive and have guests rate each flavor, picking their fave!

  6. If you can break down the flavors like we did, and put out notes from each flavor, it can be a cool experience for guests to learn and appreciate what goes into each carton

I couldn’t think of a better way to have kicked off the first weekend of summer (or really spend any weekend;). I was able to get all of our friends, old and new) in one place to celebrate.
