Rings by personality // A guide for choosing the perfect ring

Jewelry is a very personal thing. Some, you wear almost every day, so you have really got to love it. Other pieces are made and purchased to make a statement. The one thing I love most about everyday jewelry though, is how every item can and often does tell a story. Whether it’s something you bought when you hit a big milestone, or a special occasion for which you will always remember receiving it for.

For me, the idea of growing my collection of these small, wearable memories makes me happy for what i currently own — and excited for what i may add in the future. With something like this, where people might be slightly more picky over than a standard gift, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. To help lay out some options and the types of recipients that each piece would be ideal for, i’ve partnered with Monique Lhuillier to share pieces from her fine jewelry collection exclusively at Blue Nile. I mapped out a few of (what I think) are the hardest ladies I know to buy for, and am sharing how you can shop for them.

the one who’s style you obsess over

Even if you feel like you have a pretty good eye for what’s in and what’s out, this person is the one you are constantly working hard to impress. She’s innovative and adventurous when it comes to style. She loves a statement, but also knows how to put her spin on it.

For her, I chose the Monique Lhuillier Cherie Diamond Anniversary Ring. It’s bold, but when stacked with the rest of your collection, creates a unique look that is sure to attract a second glance.

When you are buying for this type of girl, think less about what might be “trendy” and more about a piece that she will be able to put her spin on. Something that you haven’t seen on everyone will likely go over well. Feel free to venture into other metals for her as well as she definitely loves to have options.

the one who loves classic details

She gravitates towards long lasting pieces, nothing too trendy, and nothing too loud. She dresses in a calm palette and the silhouettes she keeps in her wardrobe will never go out of style.

For her I chose the Monique Lhuillier Alternating Diamond & Pink Sapphire Eternity Ring. It’s dainty and will go with almost anything she puts on. The pink pop is a fun accent to a classic piece keeping it both modern and timeless.

Classic doesn’t always have to mean “plain” or “simple”. Just take a look at the different shapes of the stones in this setting. You can step outside of the box in terms of color and shape and still find pieces for the classic girl.

the edgy chic one that has a closet full of black

You may look at this one and think, this is her, this is the one I can never shop for! But I think that the opposite may be true. Go with something that will blend seamlessly with this one’s jewelry collection that is simple and unfussy (an easy find!).

She gravitates toward black, not to make a statement, but because it’s a simple way to always look chic and put together. She doesn’t have to put in too much thought to pull together a great look, which is why monotone, tailored pieces are her go-to.

In her collection you may already find mixed metals and simple bands. So I chose the Monique Lhuillier Crown Diamond Eternity Ring. Worn alone, or with a set of thin bands, this is chic and minimal and works for any occasion.
