beach accessory inspired bridesmaid invitation // diy

inspired by all of the woven straw accessories i've seen recently, i wanted to bring that beachy feel to some wedding goods. i thought it would be perfect for creating a fun envelope that could also be used after as an accessory! if you are looking for a unique way to ask friends to be part of your big day, while also gifting them with something special, sew up a few of these and put your own touch on them with embroidery or by including a little something inside.

i found this woven fabric type paper at the craft store. it's textured on the front and lined with a sturdy material on the back. you'll also need some thread, a needle and a snap or velcro. start by folding in the sides so that they overlap, and then the bottom corner so that it covers the side corners. press so that it makes a crease in the paper you will use as a guideline.

press down the top corner to create the envelope shape.

once you have your creases, start creating an embroidery pattern with the thread and needle. i made some simple starbursts with straight lines.

after you complete the embroidery on the front, fold in the sides and bottom again where you made your original crease. sew all three corners together as seen above, then make large stitches down the sides of the bottom flap to keep them down. add your snap or velcro for closure.

now just pop in your card or gift and present to the lucky ladies. after used as the envelope they would make the perfect pouch for organizing that crazy purse situation (you know we all have).
