Ever since the surge of gorgeous affogato images on pinterest, i've been dying to try my own. And with a coffee loving mom + a new espresso machine, Mother's Day seemed like the perfect opportunity! You could also easitly adapt the idea for a brunch or after dinner treat at your next party. Anything that leaves me hands free and gives guests something to do while entertaining is always a win in my book.
So, maybe you're like, what the heck is an affogato. It's simpler than it's fancy name leads on. Add a scoop of gelato or ice cream to a glass and top with hot espresso. That's it! Traditionally it is vanilla, but the best part about creating the bar is setting out your fave flavors and toppings for everyone to build their own. Add chocolate shaves, biscotti, cookies, whatever completes your bar. Kind of like the fro-yo places we all love, but better, because.... coffee.
Keep set up simple with bunches of seasonal flowers, boards from the kitchen to keep your serving area safe, and my favorite backdrop... a little art and a quote. I even added in some vines from the jasmine bush in our backyard, rather than traditional garland or party decor. It definitely completed the spring vibe I was going for!
